What Are Dust Mites?

They are tiny microscopic organisms from the spider family. They are less than half a millimetre in length, have wingless, oval, light coloured bodies with fine stripes.

They live for about two months but due to their speedy reproductive cycle an average mattress can house 100,000’s of Dust Mites.

Dust mites are pests not visible to the naked eye (0.2 – 0.3 mm / 0.008 – 0.012 in).
They feed on the dead human skin cells found in dust, millions of dust mites can live in your home, particularly in the bedding, mattresses, carpets or curtains, and soft toys.

Dust mites don't bite, sting or burrow into our bodies. However, they produce some of the most common indoor substances that can trigger allergic reactions and asthma in many people. The harmful allergen they generate comes from their faeces and body scales.
